Office Fit-Out IT Planning UK

Getting IT right during the fit-out saves time, money and disruption later. Cloudswitched works alongside your fit-out contractor to ensure technology is built into your new office from the start.

Early Involvement

We join the fit-out planning process early, ensuring IT requirements are factored into floor plans, power layouts and partition walls.

Contractor Coordination

We work directly with your fit-out team, electricians and builders to ensure cabling routes, power supplies and data points are in the right places.

First-Fix and Second-Fix

IT cabling and containment go in during first fix. Access points, face plates and equipment follow during second fix. We manage both phases.

IT Planning for Your Office Fit-Out

An office fit-out is the ideal time to get your IT infrastructure right. Once walls are up and floors are down, retrofitting network cabling and power is expensive and disruptive. By involving Cloudswitched at the fit-out planning stage, you ensure that every desk has the right number of data points, every meeting room has display connectivity, the server room has adequate power and cooling, and Wi-Fi access points are positioned for optimal coverage. We work alongside your fit-out contractor, architect and interior designer to integrate IT requirements into the overall design, ensuring nothing is missed and nothing needs ripping out later.

Why IT Must Be Part of the Fit-Out Plan

Cabling Goes Behind Walls

Network cables, power feeds and containment must be installed before walls are closed and floors are laid. Retrospective installation is three to five times more expensive.

Power Needs Planning

Server rooms need dedicated circuits with adequate capacity. Desks need floor boxes or dado trunking for power and data. These must be specified during the electrical design.

Access Points Need Mounting

Wi-Fi access points need ceiling mounting points, power-over-Ethernet feeds and optimal positioning that accounts for wall materials and room layouts.

Frequently Asked Questions

As early as possible — ideally during the initial space planning and floor plan design. IT cabling requirements directly influence electrical layouts and ceiling plans.

Absolutely. We collaborate with fit-out contractors every week. We provide technical specifications and coordinate installation timing with their programme of works.

Retrospective cabling installation is disruptive and expensive. Surface-mounted trunking is unsightly, and breaking into finished walls and ceilings costs three to five times more than first-fix installation.

We work with certified cabling contractors to install structured cabling. We design and specify the installation, then manage the contractor on your behalf.

We recommend a minimum of two Cat6 data points per desk — one for the workstation and one for the phone. Meeting rooms typically need four to six points for displays, video conferencing and connectivity.
